6 Ways to fight Gastritis

Do you experience stomach pain and discomfort as soon as you consume food or water? More than medication, dietary changes will relieve the symptoms of this irreversible condition known as ‘gastritis.’ In this article, we try to inform you about the foods that can worsen the condition.

Does working late nights and eating at irregular time lead to indigestion, belching, bloating and flatulence? Don’t overlook these warning signs.

They are hinting at an unpleasant internal condition of stomach called ‘gastritis’ which is defined as the inflammation of the lining of the stomach. Stomach is covered with mucous membrane which acts as a barrier between stomach and digestive acids. Damage to this lining causes extreme discomfort to the person characterized by nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, drastic weight loss and blood in stools/vomit.

Many patients experience abdominal pain as soon as they eat food or drink water. It could be a very uneasy and uncomfortable condition that interferes with normal life. Gastritis could be a complication of other medical conditions like Crohn’s disease, food allergies, gastric reflux and bacterial or viral infection.

Some individuals may be genetically predisposed to gastritis. Even those who consume steroids or over-the-counter drugs for a long period of time, also succumb to this disease. However, with increasing stress in their personal and professional lives, many people fall prey to this malady.

There is no one-time treatment that can completely cure gastritis once and all.

Patients have to make changes in their lifestyle and food habits to keep symptoms of gastritis at bay and comfortably live with this condition. Here we tell you what those lifestyle changes and food habits are that can alleviate gastritis:

  1. Eat small meals at frequent intervals. Best is to consume six light meals spread throughout the day
  2. Avoid junk and heavy meals
  3. No fibrous, fatty, acidic, processed and spicy foods
  4. Stay away from carbonated, fizzy, citrus and caffeinated drinks
  5. Steer clear of alcohol and smoking
  6. Practice deep-breathing and meditation to reduce stress

If you suspect you are suffering from gastritis, it is best to seek medical help to accurately diagnose the condition first and then proceed with remedial actions.
