Though a particularly embarrassing and distracting situation but urinary tract infections are very common among women. Research says almost half of all the women will have at least one urinary tract infection (UTI) in their lives and about one-fourth will have recurrent UTIs.
Urinary tract infections are generally caused by a type of bacteria called E. coli that resides in our digestive tract but when it enters into our urinary tract, it brings upon these host of frustrating symptoms which may also include low-grade fever.
Follow these seven simple practices to lower your chances of catching urinary tract infection:
Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Include water, fruits and vegetable juices, coconut water and buttermilk. Cut back on tea, coffee and alcohol.
Urinate at the first call. Don’t hold long because it may magnify bacterial growth.
Adopt good toilet practices like wiping from front to back.
During periods, change sanitary napkin every 5-6 hours.
Include probiotics like yoghurt in your diet.
Avoid vaginal sprays, powders and douches unless prescribed by a doctor.
Wear loose-fitted clothes of light fabrics to let your groin area breath.
